Streamlined Relay Team Management

The current relay team functionality can be clunky and prone to registration issues. Common problems include:

Difficulty changing the team captain

Inability to easily edit the team name after registration

Limited tools for adding or managing team categories (e.g., co-ed, all-female, corporate)

If a team captain or member invites themselves using their own email as a placeholder and then accepts the invite, it can create duplicate runner records

If an invited team member registers as a guest but uses a slightly different name, the system creates two separate records, and the original invite remains stuck in pending due to the name mismatch

Feature Requests:

Allow flexible, editable management of team captains, names, and members

Enable race directors to create and manage custom team categories

Add logic to detect and merge duplicate runner records created through email or name mismatches

Improve the invite matching system to account for minor spelling differences

Streamline and modernize the relay team registration and invitation process

These improvements would reduce confusion, improve team coordination, and enhance the experience for both runners and race directors.

+1 to allowing race directors to manage relay team entries.

Check out the Hood to Coast relay system. It seems to work pretty well for managing relay teams. Not perfect but pretty good.
